Why iPhone Can Get Black Screen
There are a few reasons why an iPhone can get a black screen, most of them are software issues.
iPhone without battery
When your iPhone doesn’t have a battery, the screen will go black even if you try to turn it on. For a while, the icon will appear with a dead battery, but if it hasn’t charged for a long time, this icon will not even appear. This is quickly fixed by connecting the iPhone to a charger.
App That Gets Stuck
There are times when an app gets stuck on the iPhone and that causes the screen to go black. This problem with an app is sometimes solved by trying to exit the app by swiping from the bottom of the screen.
A one-off iOS problem
Although this is not very common, iOS can cause a specific problem that causes the iPhone to freeze and have a black screen. These types of problems can be fixed by force restarting the iPhone and the iPhone not responding in any other way.
What To Do When iPhone Screen Goes Black
If your iPhone’s screen goes black, this is probably due, as we have seen above, to a software issue. So there are several things we can try to fix it.
Force restart iPhone
This is a procedure that fixes most iPhone problems, a forced restart of the device that won’t erase anything or pose any problems and will most likely fix the iPhone black screen issue. Follow these steps to force restart your iPhone:
- Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
- Press and quickly release the volume down button.
- Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (it may take up to 10 seconds to appear).
- The iPhone will restart unless it has no battery, in which case it charges the iPhone earlier for a while and repeats the process.
If you have an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, you’ll need to press and hold the side button and the volume down button until you see the Apple logo, and on iPhone 6s and earlier models, you’ll need to press and hold the Home button and the side button or top button.
Restore your iPhone from a computer
In case the above doesn’t work, the next step you should try is to restore the iPhone. Since it has a black screen, you’ll need to restore it from a computer, either a Mac or a Windows PC. Here are the steps:
- Connect your iPhone to a computer.
- Select your iPhone on your computer from the macOS Finder or iTunes on Windows.
- With your iPhone connected, quickly press and release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button and press and hold the side button.
- Press and hold until the recovery mode screen appears on your iPhone.
- When you’re given the option to restore or update, select Update so you don’t erase the content. If it doesn’t work, try Restore.
Talk to Apple Support
In case none of this worked, you should contact Apple support as the problem with your iPhone screen could be more serious and a repair would need to be carried out.
iPhones don’t usually have many problems but there are times they appear, if the screen has gone black now you know how to fix it. The same goes for possible iPhone battery problems, there are ways to fix them in a fairly easy way.
