The first computer that came into my house was with my communion, in the early 90s. In a matter of a few days I was hooked and a good part of the blame is the discovery of some graphic adventures that immediately and so far became some of my favorite games forever. A lot has happened since then and some of them have come out of new titles, but others not so much. In any case, playing them is always an explosion of nostalgia and pleasure.

The Secret of Monkey Island
Let’s start with what is undoubtedly my favorite graphic adventure for three decades: ‘The secret of Monkey Island‘, a Lucasfilm hit that has had its own saga and adaptation to other devices but that starts with this one. You are Guybrush Threepwood and you are a newcomer to the island of Melee to become the best pirate that has sailed the seas, for which you need, among other things, to develop the art of fighting and a ship. In the process, you cross paths with characters who mark your path, such as Governor Elaine Marley or LeChuck.
Prince of Persia
Since 1989, ‘Prince of Persia‘ has been turning us into a prince to rescue a princess by dodging deadly traps and enemies until we reach Jaffar. However, regardless of whether you have played another version and on another platform, it is always worth remembering or even trying the original for the first time.
Alone in the dark
1992’s Alone in the Dark needs few introductions. A Victorian mansion located in an invented city in Louisiana in the 1920s (20th century) is the place chosen to develop this mythical game, a pioneer in the survival horror genre. You are a private detective and you have to investigate the disappearance of Jeremy Hartwood in that house full of secrets and surprises
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade
Precisely, one of the titles I was most hooked on was this graphic adventure, one of Lucasfilm’s great successes. Homonymous to the 1989 film ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade‘, it has as its protagonist a young Indiana, whose mission is to find the Holy Grail in a series of locations that combine dialogues with puzzles and of course, the damn snakes.
Maniac Mansion
I came to ‘Maniac Mansion‘ thanks to that computer that appears in ‘The Day of the Tentacle’ (one of my favorites) and I thought it was a real work of art and a very complex game. One of the pioneering graphic adventures in point and click, it tells the story of a group of young people inside a mansion where very strange things happen and they will have to complement each other to come out on top.
Wolfenstein 3D
It’s not a graphic adventure and it wasn’t the first to use the FPS genre either, but this 1992 title did mark an era and the foundations of the first-person shooters that would be to come (and the earliest nightmares I remember). In ‘Wolfenstein 3D‘ you are the Allied soldier William “B.J.” Blazkowicz and you’re locked in Castle Wolfenstein in the middle of World War II. To escape you will need good orientation, use all the weapons you can find, stealth and a lot of stomach to deal with everything you come across.
SimCity
There are a few city-building or civilization simulation games, but few with as much influence as this ‘SimCity‘ from 1989, with that characteristic 2D point of view. You are the mayor of the city and you have the mission to build it from scratch so that it grows as much as possible and its citizens are happy.
