- The design of the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro is leaked and reminds us a lot of Apple’s AirPods
- Apple is still the brand that sells the most wearables, and HUAWEI overtakes Samsung to become third
It’s possible that the AirPods of the future will arrive with a touchscreen in their case. Or, at least, that’s what has been seen in a patent of the company. This novelty would make the AirPods case resemble the mythical iPod nano that Apple launched a few years ago, a case with which you could control music playback, for example.
We must bear in mind that this is a patent and a concept that has been created from it. Patents are invention ideas of the company and the vast majority of them do not materialize; They are there in case one day you decide to work on them. Anyway, let’s see what these futuristic AirPods that Apple has patented would look like.
Apple is ambitious about the future AirPods case
Since the first AirPods were released in 2016, Apple has made regular updates and improvements to the cases that contain its wireless earbuds. However, the vast majority of them have been related to charging and, on the second-generation AirPods Pro, support for the Find My app.
In September 2022, Apple first filed the patent describing a case for AirPods with a built-in touchscreen. According to the patent’s own examples, this display could be used to:
- Control audio playback.
- Activate and interact with Siri.
- Receive and reply to iMessages.
- Check the weather forecast.
- Listen to audiobooks.
The funny thing is that this patent, registered a year and a half ago, has recently been updated, indicating that Apple would be very interested in developing a very powerful and novel case for its AirPods, which would be very reminiscent of the sixth-generation iPod nano, a model that was even used as a watch.
As we said, it is a patent. It would be interesting to see AirPods with such a case because in some situations it would be very useful. A lot of things can currently be controlled from the earbuds, but having extra features in the case would be welcome.
