Apple has made several announcements recently. Firstly, it has launched diagnostic tools in Europe that allow users to know if their iPhone has any problems without needing to visit an Apple Store, thus completing the repair program. On the other hand, he has shared a document in which he states that iPhones will be more compatible with third-party batteries and screens.
This means that there won’t be as many restrictions when an iPhone is repaired with parts that aren’t genuine. One example Apple points to is the support for True Tone, the display’s ability to adapt its warmth to ambient light, which will no longer be restricted on third-party displays.
iPhones will be much more repairable by the end of the year
As we have told you, Apple has confirmed that True Tone will be compatible with third-party screens by the end of the year in the document it has shared. According to the company, the True Tone feature requires a special type of calibration to work properly and it is not possible to activate this type of calibration on third-party displays. However, starting at the end of the year, Apple will allow True Tone to be activated on third-party displays, providing the best possible experience. If the result is not satisfactory, the function can be deactivated from the settings.
On the other hand, Apple has also confirmed that iPhones will be more compatible with third-party batteries. Currently, when an iPhone has its battery replaced by a third-party battery, the user cannot see metrics such as maximum capacity and cycle count in case of having an iPhone 15 or a new iPad Pro or iPad Air because Apple cannot verify the accuracy of these metrics. As with the displays, starting at the end of the year, that will change and battery health metrics will be displayed with a notification stating that Apple can’t verify the information presented.
This announcement is very important because it shows that it was not an artificial limitation, but a natural one. In this way, the company will improve and give more freedom to users when it comes to repairing their iPhone with third-party parts, maintaining functions such as True Tone or battery metrics in the best possible way.
