The Motorola Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra are official, both foldable phones have been presented today accompanied by the moto tag as a positioning beacon in the pure style of Apple’s Air Tag. The proposals that land from Motorola have interesting new features, the company has emphasized during the presentation of the devices in the integration of AI-powered features.
The commitment to AI is not the only change that lands with this new generation of clamshell foldables, Motorola debuts the largest external screen of this device format. It is clear that Motorola wants to stand up to Samsung, but doing so is not easy. Of course, it seems that this time with the razr 50 and razr 50 ultra the competition with the future Galaxy Z Flip6 will be a fight of equals. Having said that, let’s see all the details of the new members of the Motorola Razr family.
Motorola razr 50 and razr 50 ultra: new foldables with AI features and an improved design
In the aesthetic section, Motorola has made the expected adjustments in this new generation of foldables. Both the razr 50 and razr 50 ultra have a refined aesthetic, which is to be expected as 4 years have passed since the launch of the Motorola razr that started this family and with everything learned with the Motorola Razr 40 launched last year.
Motorola continues to bet on the clamshell format, being a hallmark of the razr family. Of course, this year there is one main change: the outdoor screen has grown substantially. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra boasts 4-inch pOLED, being the largest diagonal seen on an exterior screen of a clamshell foldable.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 offers a diagonal of 3.4 inches. The exterior screen of the Motorola Razr 50 remains at 3.6 inches pOLED, which is also higher than that of the Samsung device. But, size is not everything and Motorola is committed to a screen with real utility.
The way in which he wants to enhance the use of this outdoor screen is with the integration of Gemini. Allowing users to access Google’s AI application from the comfort of this outer panel, simply holding down the power button will allow Gemini to be invoked.
In addition, Motorola offers users of these new foldables a subscription to Google AI Premium for three months completely free that includes Gemini Advanced, 2 TB of cloud storage along with the integration of AI within different Google products and services such as Gmail or Docs.
The usefulness of the external screen is expanded with other additions such as a specific panel for Spotify and another for the control of Bose headphones, this being a collaboration with the sound equipment brand. Leaving aside the external screen, let’s see the internal panel that has been completely renewed.
In the case of the Motorola Razr 50 ultra, it is a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED panel with a 22:9 format compatible with HDR10+ and with 165 Hz as a refresh rate. This is a top-notch panel that, on paper, should rival the screens of high-end terminals.
Continuing with the Motorola Razr 50, the panel is also pOLED and its diagonal remains at 6.9 inches. The differences are in the refresh rate, which is now 120 Hz and the resolution remains FHD+, although it maintains HDR10+ support and the 22:9 format.
Having seen the exterior, now it’s time to talk about the interior of the new Motorola Razr 50 and 50 ultra. The Razr 50 ultra model is a high-end phone with all the letters, inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 along with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
The autonomy is marked by a 4,000 mAh battery compatible with 45W TurboPower fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 5W reversible wireless charging. The battery has grown by 200 mAh compared to last year’s Motorola Razr 40 ultra, perhaps this extra will make the autonomy acceptable.
It’s the turn of the Motorola Razr 50, in this case Motorola has opted for the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X accompanied by 8 GB of RAM along with 256 GB of storage. These characteristics indicate that we are dealing with a premium mid-range device, in other words, it is below its brother.
Of course, the battery in the Motorola Razr 50 has a larger capacity than in the Motorola razr 50 ultra, it is a 4,200 mAh module compatible with 30W TurboPower fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Finishing with the technical characteristics, the Motorola Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra have IPX8 protection for dives of up to 30 minutes and at a depth of 1.5 meters.
The Motorola Razr 50 ultra debuts a photographic section that has a telephoto sensor, there are three sensors in total:
- 50-megapixel f/1.7 main rear camera
- 50-megapixel f/2.0 telephoto rear camera with two optical magnifications
- 32-megapixel f/2.4 in-display selfie camera
Of course, the telephoto lens is not present in the Razr 50. The camera arrangement of this foldable is more conventional:
- 50-megapixel f/1.7 main rear camera
- 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide and macro rear camera
- 32-megapixel f/2.4 in-display selfie camera
