Over the last few months we have seen how two of the most important Android mobile manufacturers worldwide, Samsung and Googlehave extended the support of updates of their franchise terminals to 7 years, thus exceeding the six years of update that Apple offers in its iPhones.

But since the issue of updates is not only the responsibility of smartphone brands, Qualcomm has just confirmed that it is also working on a feature that will improve Android updates.

Qualcomm will make it easier to install Android updates

In a recent interview with Android Authority, Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of phones at Qualcomm, said that his company has been developing a series of improvements for some time that will make it easier for OEMs to install Android updates.

In this sense, Patrick explained that they have been working with Google and other manufacturers of Android terminals for some time to improve the system they use to make operating system and security updates.

“One of the things we’ve been working on for the last few years with Google and with OEMs is to change the structure of the online code, that is, to change the machinery that we use to make those updates.”

Likewise, the Qualcomm executive also announced that these changes in Android updates will arrive this year:

“You’ll see that, later this year, we’ll make some announcements about some of those changes that we’ve made to make this easier and help the entire ecosystem keep Android phones more up-to-date.”

Although the Qualcomm executive has not confirmed when these improvements in Android updates will be announced, they will most likely be presented during the Snapdragon Summit 2024 to be held in Hawaii next October, an event in which the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be presented, a high-end chipset that will debut in the Xiaomi 15 and will also be mounted on the new Samsung Galaxy S25.
