iOS 18 officially makes the iPhone keyboard bilingual: this is how to set it up

The iPhone keyboard is now officially bilingual thanks to iOS 18
iOS 18 is still in beta and will be released in September

iOS 18 has been in beta for more than a week now, and the beauty of the in-development versions is that they allow you to discover little details that Apple hasn’t mentioned anywhere else. One of them is that the iPhone keyboard is now officially bilingual and works much better than before.

Currently, you can type in two languages at the same time if you have them added in the settings, but now, there is the possibility of adding two languages together and that the keyboard becomes bilingual, allowing you to use it in both languages simultaneously without having to change them.

How to Set Up the Bilingual Keyboard in iOS 18

Setting up the new iOS 18 bilingual keyboard is very simple. Only two languages can be added, but it’s equally useful. To do this, you will have to follow the following steps that we show you below:

  1. We open the Settings app on an iPhone with iOS 18.
  2. We enter the General section.
  3. We play on keyboard.
  4. Click on Keyboards.
  5. If you have two languages added, delete one of them.
  6. Add a new language; An option to merge them will appear.

Ready. You already have two languages acting as one. You’ll notice this because the first two letters of the languages you’ve chosen will appear in the space bar, and in the settings, they’ll both appear as if they’re the same, where a warning will be displayed that you’re using a multilingual keyboard.

Now you just have to try typing simultaneously in both languages; The keyboard will suggest and correct in the language it detects that you are typing. This way, you won’t have to switch languages on the globe for it to work optimally.

The difference with what we have now is that it has improved a lot and it is official. In current stable versions it works, but not as well, and the suggestions are not as good as they are now. Those small details enhance the experience and are discovered by testing the betas.
