Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was one of the most iconic games of the 2000s

Sometimes, the raw resolution cannot cope with the artistic section as a whole. Proof of this, in fact, is the visual result of the installments of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, the anthology of the three GTAs that came out in the early 2000s. And it is that, on mobiles, with a version more faithful to the originals, you can appreciate a better visual aspect than in the trilogy brought to PC and consoles of the current generation, where the result leaves the seams of an erratic and highly criticized optimization visible.

Optimization doesn’t work with resolution alone

TheGentleman’s YouTube account, where he compares different games, focuses on how the three video games that make up GTA: The Trilogy look, with the installments of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, where the mobile version, surprisingly, is shown as a friendlier platform for these video games that are already more than 20 years old, because its graphic limitations did not disrupt its artistic design in the same way.

Among other details of the comparison, it stands out how, in the PC version used as a reference, the high resolution and the elimination of volumetric fog generates a negative change in the visual aspect of the game, with a much flatter appearance and less life than in the mobile version. In the end, these problems left GTA: The Trilogy as a clear sign that breaking artistic cohesion can wreak great havoc on the game.

A controversial and highly criticized launch

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has been on the market for 2 years now, but it didn’t take long for players to be clearly disappointed by the final result. With problematic elements such as poorly optimized rain, the aforementioned removal of fog, which erased the depth of the map, or with resolution rescales made with AI that caused errors in the final result, this anthology fell far short of what any user expects from Rockstar.

This trilogy of games can be played on mobiles if you have an active Netflix subscription, as it is one of the games available in its catalog. Despite this release, two of the most relevant games of recent yearssuch as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, continue to be a success as fans anticipate the arrival of GTA VI.
