If we talk about social networks, we usually think of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter or perhaps some alternative such as BeReal. But the reality is that there are many more options that you probably don’t know about. And one of them is Kwai, a platform very similar to TikTok that has as one of its objectives to democratize content creation.
At the moment, this platform is not too well known. But it is not ruled out that in a few months its use will have spread around the world and it has become one of the most popular social networks, since it does not lack features for it. Especially those people who want to get started in content creation but who for now do not have a large number of followers can find in Kwai a site where they can allow other users to get to what they publish. What is Kwai about?
Kwai is a video social network very similar to TikTok. Its Timeline allows us to see short videos created by other users on topics that interest us, and of course we can also publish our own.
The platform’s interface features 5 tabs:
- For you: Show videos that the algorithm thinks might be interesting to us.
- Following: Shows videos posted by users we follow.
- Live: In this tab you can see the live broadcasts that are being made at that time.
- Games: It shows us games that we can enjoy on the platform.
- An additional tab with which we can see special events that are taking place at that time.

As you can see in the image, when we play a video on Kwai what we see is very similar to what we can find on TikTok. It has the options to Like, Comment and Share videos that we usually find on most social networks. But the big difference is that on this platform we can also find an additional button to download videos, something that is not very common in other social networks and that can be a problem for users concerned about their privacy.
Another difference is that in the timeline we can find a column with thumbnails of the videos that we are going to see next. In this way, we can scroll through it and get to the video that looks like it’s going to be most interesting for us, skipping those in which we have no interest and that we’re going to pass by as soon as it appears.
Why is Kwai a good choice for users with few followers?
TikTok, like most social networks, gives priority in the algorithm to users who have a higher number of followers. Therefore, it is easier for us to see videos from large accounts in the For You section. Therefore, for people who are starting out for the first time on the platform, it can be a bit complicated to make a name for themselves.
However, Kwai’s algorithm makes all users have an equal chance of appearing on each other’s timeline. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot or a few followers, if there is a user who has shown interest in the type of content you publish, it is likely that they can see one of your videos. Therefore, if you are starting out in content creation, you will be more likely to reach others on a platform like this than on one like TikTok.
Can you make money with Kwai?
Although in principle it is not an application to earn money watching videos, you do have a chance to earn money as a creator. Just as TikTok pays its creators, so does Kwai. But in this case, creators with larger accounts have more possibilities, since to join the creator program you will have to meet some requirements:
- Have more than 500 followers.
- Create original content on a regular basis.
- Accumulate more than 5,000 hours of views in the last 30 days.
You will also need to post at least one video that has been taken with your device’s camera and one that shows your face or other parts of your body and your voice is heard. When the app has verified that you are indeed creating your own content and you are managing to reach a large number of people, you can start earning money for it.
How to download Kwai
The big problem with Kwai is that at the moment it is not available in Spain. The countries where it is currently possible to use this social network are China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Peru. Normally, it will spread to other countries, but at the moment we do not have any date of arrival in Spain.
