Over the last few weeks, WhatsApp, the most used messaging application in the world with more than 2,000 million active users per month, has not stopped improving its platform with new really useful features such as a shortcut to respond to instant video messages or the possibility of creating personalized avatars using Meta AI.

But the new instant messaging client is not going to stop there, as we have just learned that the WhatsApp app for Android has begun to be updated with a functionality that we have been waiting for a long time: the transcription of voice messages.

The transcription of voice messages begins to arrive on WhatsApp

The guys from the specialized media WABetaInfo have discovered in the latest Beta of WhatsApp for Android, with version number 2.24.15.5, that the app owned by Meta has finally begun to implement the transcription of voice messages.

As you can see in the screenshot below, some Beta testers have seen a new option that allows them to enable the transcription function of incoming and outgoing voice messages.

To activate this new and practical functionality in WhatsApp you simply have to click on the “Choose language” button, select one of the five options that are currently available: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi and tap on the “Set up now” option that appears at the bottom of the app to download a data package with the chosen language.

Once this is done, you will have to download an additional data package that aims to preserve your privacy, since what it does is that the speech-to-text transcriptions are saved on the terminal, so that no one can listen to your voice notes or read their respective transcripts.

The voice message transcription feature is already available to some users of the most recent WhatsApp Beta for Android and is expected to reach more people over the next few weeks.
