The little girl (now elderly) who served as the model for “Alice in Wonderland”

The name of the little girl who appears in the image is Kathryn Beaumont and her resemblance to the famous Alice, who lives in Wonderland, is very evident and justified – this English girl was, in 1951 (the date of the premiere of the emblematic Disney film), the model who served as inspiration to create the drawing of the protagonist of one of Disney’s most emblematic films.

Kathryn was only ten years old when she caught the attention of Walt Disney, who not only wanted the girl to give life to the voices of Alice and Wendy, the central character of “Peter Pan,” but the charm of her physical features earned her the opportunity to serve as a role model for Alice.

The photos revealed today show the details and efforts with which animations were produced in Disney studios, where artists managed to make an average of 25 seconds of animation each week, in a detailed work where nothing was left to chance. It is estimated that between 1949 and 1951 more than 750 artists participated in the creation of the cinematographic work, which was constituted with more than 350 thousand drawings and paintings.

Following the huge success of the film, Kathryn finished college and became a teacher, as well as working as an actress and dancer until her retirement in the 1990s. In 1998 The Walt Disney Company named her a “Disney Legend” as an honorable mention of her importance to the cartoon giant.
